Vor fünf Jahren zog die Australierin Kate Miller nach Berlin – “mit null Erwartungen, null Kontakten und keiner einzigen Platte in der Tasche”, wie sie sagt. Definitiv nicht die schlechteste Entscheidung: Innerhalb kürzester Zeit hat sie sich vom No Name zum Liebling der Berliner Szene gespielt, etwa mit einem Auftritt bei Boiler Room und einem schon fast legendären Set im Stattbad Wedding. Am kommenden Freitag steht nun ihr erster Termin in der Panorama Bar an im Rahmen der Dial Nacht: Das Hamburger Label feiert neue Releases von Lawrence sowie das Debüt der New Yorkerin James K. Mit Carsten Jost und RNDM komplettiert Kate das Line-up. Mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit wird man in ihrem Set die folgenden Tracks zu hören bekommen – Kate Millers 3 Kurze.
Kangaroo Skull – Palace of Nothing – Temporal Cast (2015)
Some tracks make you feel like your whole set revolves entirely around them. Planning each step and building up to the point where you feel comfortable enough to put them on, gritting your teeth and hoping they will work. PON 1 is one of those tracks. Absolute fire. The grooviest electro beat, the most surprising twists and turns. Minimal elements but with Kangaroo Skull’s superb arrangement skills and complex rhythms no more is required. Completely satisfying, a track to punch your frustrations out to. I only have one qualm: it should be longer. PON 3 takes a darker, rougher turn for when we’re really in the groove and PON 2 and 4 are both fresh, sophisticated tracks too. This record is my new addiction.
Rumberos De Ayer / La Sancha – Quinto Y Bongo (Jose Marquez Mix) / Canto Del Caribe (Jose Marquez Mix) – Basic Fingers (2015)
Jose Marquez’s house remixes on Basic Fingers of unknown Latin and African records is delicious. ‘Quinto Y Bongo’ is a great opening track. Refreshing the crowd with uplifting bongos fused with latin singing and a killer house beat enables this enticing track to slide seamlessly into a house set yet stand out and recapture the audience’s attention. On the other side of the record we find an energy packed, intoxicating reimagination of ‘Canto Del Caribe’, just when your set needs that extra boost these Latin drums and chanted vocals will surely take you there.
Jared Wilson – Idea Of A Deep State – Super Rhythm Trax (2015)
Jared Wilson is one of my favourite producers. And this is one of my favourite EPs from him, on the great label: Super Rhythm Trax. The title track is my favourite of the 3 on this outstanding EP. A squelchy acid bass line, uplifting synth waves, a reliable beat and clean percussion provides for the perfect track to close your eyes and forget your troubles to at 5am.
Kate Miller stammt aus Melbourne, wo sie zwei Jahre lang Resident im Club New Guernica war. Seit 2011 lebt sie in Berlin, verbrachte die letzten Monate allerdings wieder in Australien und spielte auf zahlreichen Festivals. Kate ist außerdem Resident der Oscillate-Partys im About Blank.
